Evils of the World

This was a collage I did back in high school.

Poems Previously Written...

Ok, so here are some poems I wrote. The first poem is a Haiku and was written recently and, I think, is appropriate for the season. The second poem is a Villanelle written two summers ago. It was a poem written, seemingly about an ex-girlfriend, but I really wrote it for the current one I had at the time. The last poem is a Sonnet about being single and looking for the right girl. Enjoy.

A Colorful Funeral

There are Reds and Browns,
Also yellows. It is fall—
Death is here. Breathtaking.

To My Ex

So go, go burn all of your bridges,
you’ll never bring me down again.
It’s in the past, forget the damages.

It took a long time to break the cages
and to find myself without your reign.
So go, go burn all of your bridges.

No need for apologies, I have the bandages.
I have been through mental and physical pain,
it’s in the past, forget the damages.

I am free and happy to overcome challenges,
part ways, and finally move on to another flame.
So go, go burn all of your bridges.

I have met my savior and my heart exchanges
my love for hers’, puts a stop to the games.
It’s in the past, forget the damages.

Forgetting your name is one of my best changes,
so I can be at peace without strain.
So go, go burn all of your bridges,
it’s in the past, forget the damages.

Untitled

You were always there waiting to be found,
like a game of hide and seek, if you will.
Hadn’t thought to look in the clothes formed mound,
but now that I have you, my heart you fill.

This childhood game that is played is fun,
when everyone takes turns sharing the job
of closing eyes and counting down to one.
Then the search begins, for that hint of throb…

But sometimes games of hide and seek vary,
kids can be mean and hurtful in actions.
They choose to ignore and become wary,
Making me not want to play with these factions

However, every game is worth it to me,
because it has lead myself to find thee.

Two of the best Pumpkin Ales I've had

Some people wait and wait, season by season to drink their favorite beers. Samuel Adams has been creating seasonal beers that people enjoy all year round. Aside from their Octoberfest I enjoy Pumpkin Ale the best.  Just from pure experience tasting many different brands of Pumpkin Ale I have determined the best (by my pallet) brand of this seasonal liquid joy.

The Saranac Brewing Company was founded around 1888 and is currently brewing over 10 different beers, basic and seasonal, in the Adirondacks. Their Pumpkin Ale is moderately prices and packs a great taste of pumpkin and spices. It goes great on a cool crisp Autumn night. It's a medium bodied brew and perfectly paired with apple pie.
On an additional note: another of my favorites in the pumpkin ale family is Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale. Again, a beer with full body, full spice, and full pumpkin flavor. Sure to be another favorite if we share the same tastes!
  Enjoy the tastes of fall!

Two books guys will actually read

A lot of people have heard of Tucker Max. Some may think his a womanizing asshole. Well I don't care what you think about him. Don't buy or read his book. Being a literary major I refuse to read the Twilight series. I don't call Edward a pussy and Bella emo. I just don't read the book. With that said...on with my review of his books.

Some of you may know Tucker Max from his website. However, he also has two books out, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell and Assholes Finish First.

Let me say this before I continue...I was a Literature major in college, reading and analyzing "the classics" from Shakespeare to James to Ginsberg to Frost (and the list can go on and on). The point is I recognize quality: in the music I listen to, the movies I watch, and the books that I read.

With that said...Mr. Max writes very well. If you don't mind dirty jokes and bad words, his books read much like one of those nights exchanging embarrassing and funny stories with your good friends over a couple (or a lot) of drinks. This is what drew me into his first (and let me add NY TIMES BEST SELLER) book, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. I remember picking the book up in the local Borders just because of the title alone. I flipped through the contents and skipped to the sex stories. These stories were some of the funniest stuff I had read in a while...maybe I bought the book so I didn't embarrass myself giggling (anymore than I had) in the store. I took the book home and finished it in a couple of days, and then read my favorite sections out loud to my friends afterward.

The movie was the dumbest shit ever and people who saw it who thought it was funny should throw down 10 dollars and buy the book. It's worth it.

A few years later and some more stories to tell, Tucker Max is back with another book, Assholes Finish First. I am currently reading this book now and it is piss-your-pants funny and great to read, just like his other masterpiece.

Keep on keeping on, Tucker. I look forward to your next shit-show. Anybody who thinks reading books are boring needs to give this writer a chance and read the first section in your local book store...try not to giggle like a girl.

Best band...like ever...

The Deftones have been a band I respect and love for the last 10 years. I have been a loyal fan ever since I heard "My Own Summer" on their second album, Around The Fur. The lyrical genius of lead singer, Chino Moreno, will open your eyes to a wave of musical emotions and mood. Yes, he is THAT good. I have been to 7 or 8 shows and all of them have been an experience. Click here for one of their most recent shows I went to. I meet new people all the time and when we start discussing music and favorite artists, I always hear "I've never heard of them", and I always feel disappointed. The Deftones is like a religion to me and I want to spread the good word...or lyrics in this case. So give them an honest listen, start from the beginning, and see them live if you love them as much as I do.

Here is their discography:

Adrenaline - October 1995

Around the Fur - October 1997

White Pony - June 2000

Deftones - May 2003

B-Sides & Rarities - October 2005

Saturday Night Wrists - October 2006

Diamond Eyes - May 2010

The two best things, musically, to happen to the internet!

Pandora is a great website for exploring new artists just by listening to artists you are already familiar with. It's free...and well it can be anonymous if you make up a fake email. So get on Pandora.com and start discovering new artists!
Last.FM is a great website as well. As with Pandora, it does require registration but its totally free. It creates a super online radio station catered to the artists you love. Just hit "play library" and you can be listening to Johnny Cash, then Lil' Wayne, and then finish off with Slayer. Its an instant party maker, because you can add artists to play to your library as you listen. A few similar artists are suggested, but not to the extent that Pandora does. So hop on Last.FM and create your perfect radio station for that next party!

The manliest show on tv

I have only a few shows I have ever loved to death: LOST, Planet Earth, Band of Brothers, Batman The Animated Series, and now....

Sons of Anarchy, a show about a renegade biker gang loved by their small town of Charming, located in California. The top actors in this show include: Charlie Hunnam (Green Street Hooligans), Katey Sagal (Married With Children), Ron Pearlman (Hellboy), Mark Boone Jr. (Batman Begins), and Tommy Flanagan (Gladiator). These are just a few of the more well-known actors that appear in this show, but the whole cast is absolutely phenomenal and brings the whole mood of the show together perfectly. Watch one episode and you'll be hooked. I promise. It's is on FX on Tuesday's at 10pm.

Lets start off with a quote...

This may not mean anything to you, or maybe it will...I like the quote and its from one of my favorite movies.

"Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you're gonna be up again. But life goes on. Remember that. Money isn't real George. It doesn't matter. It only seems like it does."

I like this quote a lot, because it reminds me that life is too simple to get caught up in superficial things. Sometimes we need to stop (even if its just for 1 minute) and remember what we do have...not what we don't.
